March SuperStar Teacher: Celebrating Hollee Matthews at Hartselle Intermediate School

Hollee Matthews, a 5th grade math teacher at Hartselle Intermediate School, has been named the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce’s SuperStar Teacher for March 2026.

Our March monthly sponsor, Dustin Awtrey Agency, represented by Dustin Awtrey, joined Hartselle City Schools Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland, Mrs. Matthews' family and Chamber staff to surprise her with a $150 gift card for her classroom, a $50 gift card for personal use and a $1,000 grant awarded to Hartselle Intermediate School from the Chamber’s One Vision Foundation. Thank you to our presenting sponsor, Hubbard & Drake General-Mechanical Contractors, Inc.,

“Hollee also does a wonderful job connecting character with content, like incorporating our core values (kindness, integrity, hardwork and responsibility) into activities while teaching measures of center and variability, so students see that learning goes beyond just numbers. She builds strong relationships with her students, gets to know their strengths and challenges, and creates a warm, welcoming classroom where every child feels valued. Outside of academics, she mentors her colleagues, hosts Athens State University students and Hartselle High School visitors and shares her ideas freely to help others grow. The skill, care and creativity she shows so early in her career make her not only an outstanding teacher but also a role model in the school community. Mrs. Hollee Matthews truly embodies what it means to inspire and support learners every single day.," wrote Hartselle Intermediate School Principal Dr. Earon Sheats in her nomination.

The Chamber’s SuperStar Teacher program celebrates educators who make a significant impact on their students, colleagues and communities. This initiative is part of the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to recognizing and supporting outstanding educators in Decatur-Morgan County. The One Vision Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, funds these grants through the generous support of our Chamber members. Chamber members can contribute through their invoices, or anyone can make a tax-deductible donation by visiting our website at www.dcc.org/one-vision-foundation.
