Morgan County Communications Department, Chamber Earn National Award for “Love Where You Live” Brochure

The Morgan County Communications Department received two first-place awards at the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) annual awards competition, held during the National Association of Counties Conference in New Orleans.

One of the winning projects was the "Love Where You Live" brochure, a collaborative effort between Morgan County Communications Director Michael Wetzel and the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce's  Director of Communications Rachel Keith and Director of Investor & Business Development Margaret Jones. The 16-page publication, created to showcase the quality of life in Morgan County to Space Command workers relocating from Colorado to North Alabama earned first place in the Quality of Life Publication category for mid-size counties (population 50,000–500,000).

Morgan County Communications also received a first-place award for photography featured in the annual Morgan Choice Awards campaign. Wetzel's photographs generated more than 520,000 views on the Morgan County Commission's Facebook page during a three-week period in December.

The awards recognize communications projects completed during the 2025 calendar year. According to NACIO, this year's competition included 253 entries from counties across the country.

"Any time we get the spotlight on Morgan County at the national level, it is a big deal. These winning projects help show the nation some of the great things we have to offer in Morgan County. It is a great place to live," said Morgan County Commission Chairman Ray Long. "Collaborating with the Chamber on the colorful and informative brochure says plenty about the hard work the team put into the project. We are very proud of them."
