Students Gain Hands-On Experience During 2026 Automotive Academy

The Chamber, in partnership with Calhoun Community College, kicked off the 2026 Automotive Academy on June 9 at Calhoun’s Decatur Campus. This three-day camp gave high school students the opportunity to explore the automotive industry through hands-on learning experiences.

Students worked with electric and hybrid vehicles, built an electric motor and learned the basics of gas engines, including setting up an engine on a test stand and making it run.

The Chamber’s 2026 Educational Camps provide students with opportunities to explore career pathways and gain valuable skills for the future. Camps will continue throughout June with Healthcare Camp, CyberPatriot Camp and Precision Machine Camp. The summer will wrap up with the 20th annual SWeETy Camp (Summer Welding & Electrical Camp for girls) July 13–16.

Thank you to our 2026 Educational Camps presenting sponsor Indorama Ventures and gold sponsor Nucor Steel Decatur.
