Kelli Powers Receives the ATHENA Leadership Award at 16th Annual Women in Business Celebration

The Decatur–Morgan County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 16th Annual Women in Business Celebration on December 10 over 280 attendees for a morning of inspiration, professional development and recognition. The event culminated in honoring Kelli Powers, President of Decatur Morgan Hospital, as this year’s recipient of the prestigious ATHENA Leadership Award.

Named for the Greek goddess of wisdom and the champion of justice, the international ATHENA program recognizes women who demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their professions; contribute meaningfully to their communities; and actively support the leadership development of other women.

Powers was recognized for her outstanding leadership and her continued commitment to strengthening healthcare in North Alabama. Since becoming President of Decatur Morgan Hospital in 2020, she has led multiple hospital campuses, 18 clinics and more than 1,900 employees, supporting care for over a quarter of a million residents. Her extensive career includes prior service as Chief Financial Officer of the Huntsville Hospital Health System and CEO of Athens-Limestone Hospital.

With more than 33 years of experience, Powers has made a significant impact across Alabama’s healthcare landscape. She currently chairs several key boards, including the Healthcare Workers’ Compensation Fund (HWCF), Partners Cooperative, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama Hospital Advisory Committee, and the Chamber’s own Board of Directors.

“Kelli’s leadership and commitment to serving others embodies the spirit of the ATHENA Leadership Award,” said Crystal Brown, President and CEO of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce. “Her dedication to advancing healthcare, strengthening our regional workforce, and mentoring future leaders is extraordinary. We are proud to honor her achievements and the impact she continues to make across our community and our region.”
