Chamber’s Excellence in Leadership Class to Host Charity Pickleball Tournament this Weekend at Point Mallard
This charity tournament serves as the class’s annual community service project with all proceeds divided equally among three local nonprofits: Brothers for Life Benefit Fund, First Priority of Greater Decatur and Meals on Wheels.
“Our class chose a pickleball tournament because it brings people together in a fun and meaningful way,” said class representative Bobby Peavler and Decatur Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief. “With the City of Decatur’s investment in a state-of-the-art pickleball facility at Point Mallard, this event felt like the perfect fit for our community and our mission.”
A total of 242 participants have registered for the tournament. While player registration is now closed, tax-deductible donations can still be made by clicking here.
The Excellence in Leadership program is the Chamber’s premier leadership development initiative, designed to cultivate informed, engaged leaders. Since its founding in 1987, the 10-month program has helped shape hundreds of professionals through immersive sessions focused on key community topics. Each class selects and completes a community service project.
“This program not only builds leadership skills but also strengthens the connection between participants and our community,” said Crystal Brown, President and CEO of the Chamber. “We’re incredibly proud of this year’s class and their commitment to giving back.”
Applications are now open for the 2025–2026 Excellence in Leadership class presented by Nucor Steel Decatur. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 18. The application can be accessed by clicking here.
