Decatur was among the first in the state to recognize the need for constantly upgrading and improving the education system. PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Public Schools offer advanced courses, gifted programs, vocational programs, foreign languages, and art and music. Extracurricular activities such as scholars bowl, math teams, public speaking forums and debate teams have earned this area nationwide attention
There are two high schools, three middle schools 12 elementary schools and alternative high schools. USA TODAY has cited the Decatur system after its students achieved the top 10 percent in test scores. Academic teams rank at the state and national levels, and graduating seniors get scholarship offers from colleges and universities across the nation.
