Crystal Brown to serve as new Chamber president and CEO
The Board of Directors for the Decatur Morgan County Chamber of Commerce has selected current Vice President of Development Crystal Brown to serve as president and chief executive officer effective July 1. Current President and CEO John Seymour announced his retirement in May after more than 30 years of service to our community.
Brown joined the Chamber staff in 2012. As vice president, Brown has directed a wide range of Chamber activities, having worked with partners and community leaders on retention and expansion of existing businesses, recruitment of new businesses and commercial investments in the community. She also leads the coordination of business training and networking opportunities, serves as a direct liaison with Chamber investors and elected officials, and is currently directing the Chamber's efforts to attract residential growth in our community.
“Crystal’s tireless work in our business community, and recently leading the efforts to expand residential development opportunities, makes her the perfect person to lead this new era of the Chamber and build on John’s legacy,” said Jeff Brown, chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors who led the search process. “Her knowledge of this community and the relationships she has fostered over time will serve our members and Decatur-Morgan County for years to come.”
Prior to joining the Chamber, Brown served 18 years at The Decatur Daily, the last four as advertising director. During her tenure with the Daily, she served as a vice chair on the Board of Directors and later as chair in 2003-2004. In addition to her work with the Chamber, she has served on various community boards and foundations. Among them are the One Decatur comprehensive city plan steering committee, the Decatur Morgan CEO program, the Athens State University Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, and many others. Brown was the recipient of the 2017 ATHENA Leadership Award, and was selected as the 2020 Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama (CCAA) Chamber Professional of the Year. She will serve as board chair of CCAA in 2022.
Brown graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. She is also a 2016 graduate of Leadership Alabama – a statewide leadership program that gathers 50-60 professionals each year for retreats to better understand problems and priorities for the our state’s future – an organization where she currently serves as Decatur Regional Council Chair. Brown and her husband, Murphy, have three daughters, a son-in-law, a granddaughter and live in Decatur.
