Health Care

Two hospitals, one private and the other public, make up the nucleus of Decatur's health care: Parkway Medical Center Hospital in the southwest section and Decatur General Hospital in the southeast. Decatur General recently opened its newest facility, Decatur General West, a complete psychiatric and substance abuse center dealing with both adolescents and adults. Decatur General also opened in 1995 the first parking deck in Decatur as well as a new medical office complex connected to the hospital and parking deck by a suspended walkway.

Decatur General Hospital ...

Parkway Medical Center ... Parkway currently is licensed for 112 beds and Decatur General Hospital is a 337-bed hospital. Decatur General, the area's oldest hospital, also provides the area's only oncology center. Both provide emergency room and intensive care services.

In addition to the two major hospitals, there are private and public psychiatric hospitals, a district health department, counseling centers and private out-patient clinics.

More than 100 physicians, 42 dentist, 23 pharmacies, five nursing homes and health care providers ensure the best health care is available around the clock. Local physician specialties include family practitioners, cancer treatment, kidney, cardiology, neurology, plastic surgery, dermatology, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics.

Decatur Medical Center ...

Tennessee Valley Rehabilitation Center, the Center for Developmentally Disabled and Terrell Industries in Hartselle offer training and development for the disabled.
