Community Education

Times are changing. There was a time when a person could scrape by with the rudiments of an education: the basic readin', 'riting and 'rithmetic. Those days are gone and quality education today takes much more than then 3 r's. Decatur was among the first in the state to recognize the need for constantly upgrading and improving the education system. Because of that foresight, this area now boasts one of the most respected systems in Alabama, known statewide for turning out students who have the education if takes to excel in today's fast-paced world.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Public Schools offer advanced courses, gifted programs, vocational programs, foreign languages, and art and music. Extracurricular activities such as scholars bowl, math teams, public speaking forums and debate teams have earned this area nationwide attention

There are two high schools, three middle schools 12 elementary schools and alternative high schools. USA TODAY has cited the Decatur system after its students achieved the top 10 percent in test scores. Academic teams rank at the state and national levels, and graduating seniors get scholarship offers from colleges and universities across the nation.
